Electrical Substation Engineer

We are hiring an experienced Electrical Substation Engineer for a hybrid role supporting like‑for‑like equipment replacements and upgrades across existing substations. This position combines office‑based engineering work with on‑site field coordination, focused entirely on brownfield substation projects.
This is a hybrid position in the Greater Denver Area, requiring regular collaboration with field teams and time on site as projects require.
What you will be doing
- Lead like‑for‑like replacements and upgrades of substation equipment including breakers, switches, transformers, relays, bushings, and arresters
- Troubleshoot existing substation equipment and support corrective actions
- Develop and adjust engineering designs to support replacement and maintenance work
- Initiate projects, order materials, and prepare scoped work packages
- Coordinate closely with construction crews and substation maintenance teams (hybrid office + field work)
- Manage schedules, outages, and communication with all project stakeholders
- Deliver projects through field execution, close‑out, and completion
What we are looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- 2.5 or more years of experience in substation engineering design
- Strong knowledge of substation equipment and maintenance workflows
- Experience supporting brownfield substation replacements or upgrades
- Comfortable working in a hybrid environment that includes both office and field responsibilities
Nice to have
- Professional Engineer license
- Experience with SAP and ProjectWise
- Exposure to basic PLC or logic programming
