Job Summary
POWER Engineers, Member of WSP, is seeking a Mid-Level Substation Design Engineer with a strong background in substation design to join our Power Delivery Substation Department in San Diego, California. This role offers a remote, hybrid, or in-office working environment. Remote employees may travel to a company office for periodic meetings.
Responsibilities
- Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations
- One-line diagrams, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling
- Occasional travel will be required
Required Education/Experience
- Ability to function as a Mid-Level Substation Design Engineer for our San Diego office
- BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option
- Experience in 15kV through 230kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards
- Experience in managing small project teams
- Experience filling the role of substation design engineer for several projects occurring concurrently
- Engineer in Training (EIT) or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
- Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.
- Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
Desired Education/Experience
- 5+ years experience in utility substation design as outlined above
- Experience in 345kV through 500kV substation design
- Professional Engineering license (PE)
- Managerial and leadership skills a plus
