Senior Electrical Engineer, Wire Harnessing and Test Systems, Kuiper
Amazon
About the job
Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, and we’ve designed the system with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.
Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
We are hiring for an experienced Electrical Engineer responsible for ensuring electrical integrity across spacecraft harnessing systems, with a primary focus on test harnessing and a secondary support role for flight harnessing. This candidate will own the development, validation, and enforcement of harness design standards to mitigate issues such as noise, crosstalk, and unintended behavior.
Key job responsibilities
Electrical Integrity Ownership: Lead analysis and mitigation strategies for signal degradation, transient susceptibility, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) in test harnesses and test systems; extend to flight harnesses as needed.
Grounding & Shielding Strategy: Define and validate grounding schemes (single-point, multi-point, hybrid) for test systems and shielding approaches for sensitive signal lines.
Harness Design Standards: Specify technical requirements for:
Shielded vs unshielded cable use
Twisted pair implementation
Low speed, high speed, and RF signals
Separation and routing guidelines for mixed-signal harnessing
Design Review Participation: Partner with flight and test engineering teams during early design phases to influence harness design and interconnects to ensure electrical signal integrity.
Failure Investigations: Serve as the go-to owner for root cause analysis (RCA) of test harness anomalies relating to electrical integrity, test harness and verification anomalies, and electromechanical test system.
Documentation & Compliance: Develop interface control documents (ICDs), block interconnect diagrams (BIDs), electrical schematics, test harnessing specifications, and a signal integrity standards library.
Basic Qualifications
BS degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, functional test procedures, and root cause investigations
5+ years of experience in design or systems architecture role working with wire harnesses and related test systems.
Experience with setup, control and automation of lab equipment like spectrum analyzers, signal generators, electronic loads, power supplies, network analyzers, high-speed oscilloscopes, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
Experience in requirements definition and derivation using modelling, simulation and other analysis tools.
Experience in spacecraft or high-reliability electronics environments
Experience with harness design and testing methods (DWV, IR, NEXT, FEXT, TDR, VSWR, etc.) for complex systems
Experience with ECAD software KiCad, Altium, Expedition, and/or Mentor Graphics
Familiarity with MIL-STD-461, IPC/WHMA-A-620, or similar EMI and harnessing standards
Strong cross-functional communication skills with avionics, systems, test, and harness manufacturing teams
