KAHM Consulting, LLC. is seeking a hands-on Senior Renewable Energy Project Engineer for our client in the Solar, Clean Energy and Power Generation space to support pre- and post-sales engineering efforts including equipment sizing, installation, and commissioning. This position reports to the CEO.
About the Role
The Senior Renewable Energy Project Engineer will create application engineering tools to generate “preliminary” system designs based on concentrated solar energy (CSP) including heliostat field, power and heat generation estimates, energy storage sizing, PV field sizing, waste heat estimates, and cost.
Responsibilities
- Create application engineering tools to generate “preliminary” system designs based on concentrated solar energy (CSP) including heliostat field, power and heat generation estimates, energy storage sizing, PV field sizing, waste heat estimates, and cost.
- Generate lifecycle cost models for each project including CAPEX, installation costs, and planned and unplanned maintenance costs.
- Perform engineering calculations including: energy balance, heat storage sizing, pressure drop, etc.
- Use SAMS, PV watts, AutoCad, MS Visio, etc to assist in project development.
- Travel to customer sites to conduct site evaluations.
- Travel to locations to collaborate with other team members in United States and Internationally.
- Generate site plans, single line diagrams, P&IDs, and PFDs based on project specifications.
- Work directly with suppliers to specify heliostat field, PV field, energy storage, and related equipment.
- Work directly with equipment suppliers to ensure all components are manufactured to 247Solar specifications.
- Lead power plant testing and commissioning activities at customer sites.
- Identify and implement “lessons learned” for each project.
- Train local operations and maintenance personnel.
- Read publications and attend trade shows to understand state of the art renewable energy technology.
- Travel time: 10-20%
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Master’s degree a plus.
Required Skills
- Minimum 15 years of work experience in power generation and/or clean energy.
- Minimum of 10 years working as application engineer in clean energy systems or projects.
- Minimum of 5 years working as application engineer in concentrated solar energy (CSP) systems or projects.
- Understands concentrated solar power technology (heliostats, energy storage, power generation) and its applications.
- Strong fundamental engineering skills (thermodynamics, fluids, energy, electrical).
- Demonstrated experience generating site plans, SLD, P&IDs and PFDs.
- Demonstrated engineering skills working projects from beginning to end.
- Experience generating FMEAs and HAZOPs.
- Experience working with component suppliers is a plus.
- Experience testing power generation equipment in the field is a plus.
- Experience managing virtual teams in multiple time zones and cultures.
- Desire to work in a small dynamic team.
- Must have excellent written and oral English communication skills.
