As widely reported in the media over the past two years, the latest EU universal PFAS restriction proposal under REACH is expected to have a significant impact on industrial stakeholders across the EU market. This also includes electrical grid operators and equipment manufacturers, as PFAS are extensively used in critical grid infrastructure and embedded within global supply chains. But what is it about in details.
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a broad class (>10,000) of man-made chemicals with attributes providing among others protection against water, grease, and stains which are required for a large number of highly impacted industrial applications. However, their extreme environmental persistence and association with harmful health effects leading EU authorities to an ambitious chemical restriction effort.
