In recent years, the evolution of IoT (Internet of Things) has brought innovation to the management and operation of substation equipment.

Substation switchgear maintains the functionality of power transmission and distribution networks by switching the main circuit on and off: failure to operate can have critical consequences. Therefore, meticulous inspections and maintenance are conducted to prevent such failures.

This paper examines ‘a system that uses IoT technology to track and manage the operational characteristics of switchgear for substations, and the potential for reducing inspection work by utilizing this system’. In particular, the effectiveness of introducing a low-cost monitoring system that does not require substation service outages is examined below.
