Vietnam, Nghe An: A new 220 kV double-circuit transmission line between Tuong Duong and Do Luong has been successfully energised, paving the way for increased electricity imports from Laos into Vietnam’s national grid. The project spans approximately 80.66 km and includes the expansion of two 220 kV feeder bays at the Do Luong substation.
Invested by the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), managed by the Central Power Projects Management Board (CPMB), and operated by Power Transmission Company No. 1, the new line runs through multiple communes, including Tam Quang, Con Cuong, Anh Son, Yen Xuan and Do Luong.
The transmission link will enhance power supply stability for Nghe An province and release capacity from hydropower plants in Laos, including Nam Mo, My Ly, and Nam Mo 1, as well as several smaller plants. Electricity from these sources will be transferred via the Tuong Duong 220 kV substation into Vietnam’s national grid.
Despite significant challenges, such as land clearance issues and severe weather conditions throughout 2025, the project was completed more than one month ahead of schedule. EVNNPT credits the achievement to strong local support and cooperation from communities along the route.
The energisation marks a milestone for CPMB and EVNNPT, coinciding with the fifth Congress of the EVNNPT Trade Union (2025–2030 term) and the upcoming 71st anniversary of the Vietnamese power sector on 21 December.
