Germany: The Jasmund substation, part of the Ostwind 3 project, has been successfully installed in the German sector of the Baltic Sea. This marks the completion of the first of three offshore substations commissioned by 50Hertz Transmission.

Weighing over 4,000 t, the substation will provide an installed capacity of 300 MW. The installation was carried out by the joint venture between HSM Offshore Energy, Smulders, and Iv, who were responsible for the EPCIC (engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning) of the topsides and jacket.

The topsides were built at HSM’s Stormpolder yard near Rotterdam, while the jacket was constructed by Smulders at its site in Vlissingen. Following the offshore installation, a period of testing and commissioning will prepare the OSS Jasmund substation for operation.

This substation is the first of three that the joint venture will deliver for 50Hertz Transmission as part of the OST-6-1 grid connection. The next two substations, OSS Zingst and OSS Darß, will connect the Gennaker East and Gennaker West offshore wind farms to Germany’s onshore grid.

Once all three substations are operational, they will provide a combined offshore wind capacity of 1.2 GW, contributing significantly to Germany’s renewable energy grid integration.
