ABB has completed the acquisition of Gamesa Electric’s power electronics division in Spain from Siemens Gamesa, following the initial announcement made last December. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
For the financial year ending 30 September 2025, the acquired business generated revenues of about $168.4 M (€145 M). The portfolio includes wind converters for doubly fed induction generators, industrial battery energy storage systems, and inverters designed for utility-scale solar projects.
As part of the transaction, nearly 400 employees will join ABB, with teams based in China, India, Australia, and the United States. The agreement also covers two converter manufacturing facilities located in Valencia and Madrid.
“This combination of ABB’s global reach with Gamesa Electric’s portfolio and expertise positions us to capture rising demand and support renewable energy deployment worldwide,” said Daniel Gerber, Motion High Power business line manager at ABB.
ABB has also signed a supply and services agreement with Siemens Gamesa to support ongoing operations. The purchase is expected to expand ABB’s installed base of wind converters by around 46 GW.
Gamesa Electric brings more than 40 years of experience in power electronics, with strong capabilities in solar and other renewable applications. Wider market trends remain favourable: according to the International Energy Agency’s Renewables 2025 report, electricity generation from renewable sources is forecast to grow by 60 % by 2030, rising from 9,900 TWh to 16,200 TWh. Renewables are also expected to overtake coal as the largest source of global electricity either by the end of this year or by mid-2026.
Solar PV is projected to account for over half of this increase, with wind contributing roughly 30 %.
