Czech Republic / Bulgaria: ABB is boosting production of its MNS low-voltage switchgear by 120% at its facilities in Brno, Czech Republic, and Rakovski, Bulgaria. The expansion responds to growing electricity needs from hyperscale data centers and rapidly electrifying European industries.

Nicole Koeppen, Head of Low Voltage Systems at ABB, said, “Hyperscale data centers and modern industrial facilities have different power requirements, but both demand reliable, customised distribution systems. These expansions give ABB the manufacturing capacity and technical expertise to serve both markets at scale.”

The Brno site will become ABB’s largest MNS switchgear factory in Europe, serving as a Competence Center for advanced engineering. Relocating to CTP Park Blučina, the facility will feature a single-building layout for lean manufacturing, shorter throughput times, and dedicated production lines for data centers, industrial projects, and offshore wind HVDC platforms. The site employs 320 people and will expand as output grows, with enhanced R&D and prototyping capabilities.

The Rakovski plant will focus on manufacturing and assembly, working closely with ABB’s engineering team in Bielsko-Biala, Poland. This distributed model allows ABB to combine scalable production with specialised engineering and project management for complex installations.

The expansion will be phased through 2026, with Rakovski starting operations in early Q2 and Brno scheduled for August 2026. By increasing production and engineering capabilities, ABB aims to support European industries in improving energy efficiency, integrating digital monitoring, and achieving sustainability targets.
