USA: ABB has announced plans to invest $110 M in its US operations in 2025 to expand manufacturing and R&D capacity for advanced electrification solutions. The move reflects rising energy demand from data centres, utilities, and industry, and will create almost 200 new jobs.

The investment covers four sites. In Senatobia, Mississippi, ABB will spend $15 M on a new production line for its Emax 3 air circuit breaker, technology designed to protect critical facilities such as data centres and airports.

In Richmond, Virginia, a $30 M project will double the site’s footprint, adding a test centre, warehouse, and assembly lines. Around 100 new engineering and production roles will be created.

In Arecibo, Puerto Rico, ABB is investing $30 million to expand with three new production lines, creating 90 skilled jobs by the end of 2026.

A further $35 M will go into Pinetops, North Carolina, to increase output of low- and medium-voltage grid components, supporting utilities and industrial customers upgrading their energy systems.

Morten Wierod, ABB CEO, said: “This investment is part of our strategy to meet growing US demand, driven by AI-driven data centre growth, grid modernisation, and customer focus on efficiency.”

In 2024, ABB reported close to $9 B in revenues from the United States, which remains its largest single market. The company employs about 17,000 people across 20 states.
