Albania, Kamza: A new substation is under construction in Kamza, Albania, with the project expected to improve technical standards and strengthen electricity supply for consumers in the area.
The works were inspected by Albania’s Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, who said: “This is an investment that is being implemented with the support of the Albanian and German governments. It is one of the most important projects in the energy sector.”
According to Karakaçi, the $14.8 M (€13 M) investment aims to modernise the electricity network and increase capacity. He added that wider cooperation with the German government in the energy sector is worth $34 M (€30 M) and includes the digitalisation of substations, construction of the new Kamza substation and rehabilitation of 12 other substations.
Blendian Dalipi, Administrator of the Power Distribution Operator OSSH, said the new facility will fully replace the old infrastructure.
Germany’s Ambassador to Tirana, Karl Bergner, also welcomed the cooperation between the two countries, saying the project would help improve the stability of electricity supply. He noted that progress has also been made on the 400 kV power line with North Macedonia, which is expected to increase grid stability and create opportunities for Albania to expand energy exports.
The project forms part of broader efforts to modernise Albania’s power infrastructure and improve the reliability of electricity supply.
