USA: Avangrid, a member of the Iberdrola Group, has announced an $18.5 B investment plan through 2028 to strengthen electric and gas networks across its service territories in New York, Maine, and Connecticut. The initiative aims to modernise aging infrastructure, increase system capacity, and bolster resilience against severe weather events that have become more frequent in recent years.
The investment will focus on rebuilding and replacing critical assets in both electric and gas utilities, expanding capacity to support new data centres and major development projects, and minimising storm-related restoration costs. It also aligns with state and federal clean energy goals, enabling greater integration of renewables while maintaining grid stability and reliability for the company’s 3.4 million customers across New York and New England.
“With our commitment to invest $18.5 B in the US energy sector, Avangrid is focused on building and strengthening the infrastructure that unlocks innovation, drives economic growth, and secures the nation’s energy future,” said Jose Antonio Miranda, CEO of Avangrid. “This plan ensures the grid will support growing energy demand today, make it more resilient, and accelerate economic competitiveness into the future.”
The investment reinforces Avangrid’s position as a key contributor to the US energy transition, emphasizing long-term system reliability, economic development, and sustainable growth across the northeastern states.
