UK, Colchester: BRUSH Group has acquired D K Moriarty Ltd, a long-established UK manufacturer of specialist instrument transformers.

Founded in 1968, D K Moriarty designs and manufactures current transformers, voltage transformers and bespoke solutions for energy distribution, power generation, and commercial and industrial applications. The family-owned company employs around 50 people at its manufacturing site in Colchester, Essex.

The acquisition supports BRUSH Group’s strategy to strengthen domestic production and improve supply-chain resilience. It also gives the company greater access to critical components used in switchgear and power transformers.

“We are delighted to welcome D K Moriarty into the BRUSH family,” said Nicolas Pitrat, CEO of BRUSH Group. He highlighted the company’s reputation for engineering quality, technical expertise and customer service.

Pitrat said the transaction would strengthen control over an important part of BRUSH’s supply chain while supporting shorter lead times, broader manufacturing capacity and expanded engineering knowledge.

Sean Moriarty, Operations Director at D K Moriarty, described the agreement as “an exciting new chapter for our business”, adding that joining BRUSH would provide access to a larger engineering team and additional resources for future growth.

Instrument transformers provide essential measurement and protection functions that support the safe and reliable operation of electrical networks. D K Moriarty’s products are customised for individual projects and manufactured to UK, European and international standards.

The company will continue operating from its Colchester facility, with no planned changes for employees, customers or suppliers.
