Kyrgyzstan: China is looking to invest as much as $1 B in renewable energy projects in Kyrgyzstan, focusing on the development of solar and wind power plants.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Ravshanbek Sabirov, head of Kyrgyzstan’s National Investment Agency, and representatives from China Energy Engineering Investment.
During the talks, the Chinese company expressed interest in taking part in projects with a combined capacity of up to 700 MW. The plans include 500 MW of solar power and 200 MW of wind energy.
Both sides reviewed opportunities for cooperation in renewable energy and discussed potential investment projects across Kyrgyzstan. Officials also presented details about the country’s investment environment and existing government support measures available to investors.
Kyrgyzstan is continuing to expand its energy sector through hydropower development as well. According to the Ministry of Energy, the country plans to launch 13 small hydropower plants in 2026 with a total capacity of 81.03 MW. These facilities are expected to generate around 348.3 million kWh of electricity each year.
From 2021 to 2025, Kyrgyzstan commissioned 27 small hydropower plants with a combined capacity of 109.8 MW, producing nearly 427 million kWh annually.
The country also plans to commission another 48 small hydropower plants between 2026 and 2030, adding a further 421.26 MW of capacity.
