Colombia’s new power transmission projects aim to modernise the country’s electricity grid and support energy transition goals across nine departments, primarily in the Andean region.
Key Projects:
1. Amanecer Substation (Tolima)
– 500/230/115 kV capacity
– Two 450MVA transformers
– New transmission lines totaling 658km
– Connection to Virginia-Nueva Esperanza 500kV circuit
– Completion expected by 2032
2. Nordeste y Urabá Antioqueño Interconnection
– Two new substations: Lagunas (220kV) and Guárcama (220kV)
– Strengthens northwestern Antioquia grid
3. Carlosama Substation (Nariño)
– 230/115kV capacity
– Ecuador interconnection
– Links to Jamondino-Pomasqui transmission line
4. Corzo Substation (Cundinamarca)
– 500/115kV capacity
– 450MVA transformer
– Reconfiguration of existing transmission links
5. Macana Substation (Caldas/Risaralda)
– 230/115kV capacity
– Associated power lines planned
The projects focus on addressing urgent infrastructure needs. Public comments on the draft resolution are being accepted until February 12, 2025.
