UAE, Dubai: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has continued expanding its distribution infrastructure as electricity demand in the emirate increases. The authority reported record electricity generation of 11.09 TWh in the first quarter.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, said the organisation commissioned 1,994 new 11 kV substations in 2025, compared with 1,530 in 2024. This represents an increase of more than 30 % year on year.
He noted that DEWA is steadily developing its distribution network in line with international standards to keep pace with rising demand for electricity and water in Dubai. The expansion also supports the emirate’s broader economic and urban growth plans through 2030.
Al Tayer added that the upgrades align with Dubai’s development objectives under the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, strengthening the city’s position as a global hub for living, business and investment.
Rashid bin Humaidan, Executive Vice President of Distribution Power at DEWA, said work on 11 kV substations and related projects in 2025 involved more than 1.45 million working hours, all completed under strict health and safety standards.
He also confirmed that the total number of medium-voltage distribution substations, including 11 kV and 6.6 kV units, reached 47,060 by the end of 2025.
DEWA said the ongoing expansion reflects its commitment to ensuring a reliable and efficient power supply while supporting Dubai’s continued growth and development.
