Romania: The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is providing $66.5 M (RON 300 M), in financing to Delgaz Grid SA.

The loan will support the modernisation of the company’s electricity distribution network in north-eastern Romania. It will finance part of Delgaz Grid’s 2026–2030 capital expenditure programme, which includes network upgrades, digitalisation and the rollout of smart meters.

The EBRD financing is part of a wider $665 M (RON 3 B) syndicated facility, arranged together with six commercial banks.

Delgaz Grid is an electricity and gas distribution company in Romania and part of the E.ON Group. It is also a long-standing private-sector client of the EBRD. The Bank said its participation reinforces its partnership with one of Romania’s key distribution system operators and supports the continued upgrade of the country’s energy infrastructure.

The planned investments are expected to reduce electricity interruptions and network losses, improve reliability and support the integration of additional renewable energy capacity. The upgrades will also contribute to Romania’s 2030 renewable energy targets.

Delgaz Grid operates electricity and natural gas distribution networks in northern Romania. The company serves around 1.6 million electricity customers and more than 2 million natural gas customers.

The E.ON Group is one of Europe’s largest energy network operators, serving around 47 million customers.

The EBRD has invested more than $14.5 B (€12.5 B) across 594 projects in the country.
