Brazil, Goiás: EDP has expanded its footprint in Brazil’s power sector after acquiring two transmission lines previously owned by Celg Participações (CelgPar). The Lago Azul line links Barro Alto to Itapaci in Vale de São Patrício over 69 km, while the Firminópolis line spans 83 km between Trindade and Firminópolis.

According to EDP, the acquisition aligns with its long-term strategy to strengthen the Brazilian transmission network, enhance reliability, and support the increasing integration of renewable energy.

“We aim to strengthen the network in Goiás, making it more modern and ready for the future,” said Daniel Sarmento, Vice President of Transmission for EDP in South America.

Earlier this year, EDP Brasil announced an investment of $72 M (400 million reais; €62 M) to upgrade the transmission network in Goiás and prepare it for data centre expansion. The investment, scheduled between 2025 and 2027, includes installing teleprotection systems, elevating lines, replacing equipment, and increasing substation capacity.

The company will also deploy fibre optic cables across nine transmission lines in Goiás, spanning 473 km, to boost communication and grid management efficiency.

EDP Brasil, active in the state’s transmission segment since 2022, already manages 756 km of lines and 14 substations following a $385 M (2.1 N reais; €330 M) auction win.

Beyond transmission, EDP Brasil serves approximately 3.8 million customers in São Paulo and Espírito Santo. In July, the company renewed its Espírito Santo energy distribution concession for another 30 years, further solidifying its long-term presence in Brazil’s energy sector.
