France: Eiffage has been appointed as the main contractor for a major high-voltage substation and shared infrastructure at Campus AI’s Fouju site in France, in a contract worth over $140 M (€120 M). The deal marks the start of the project’s execution phase following earlier commitments announced at the Choose France 2025 summit.
The work will be carried out by a consortium led by Eiffage Énergie Systèmes, which will handle the design, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of a 400kV/33kV electrical substation. The facility is designed to reach a final capacity of 1.4 GW.
Other parts of the Eiffage group will deliver supporting infrastructure, including buildings, roads, utilities, engineering structures and landscaping. Eiffage Génie Civil will manage civil works, while Eiffage Route will oversee external site development.
Campus AI said choosing Eiffage reflects a strategy of relying on French industrial expertise and integrating multiple group capabilities to streamline design and construction, potentially speeding up delivery.
The project will also prioritise regional teams from Île-de-France and involve local subcontractors and SMEs. The planned substation will use gas-insulated metal-clad technology with a low global warming potential, described as a first-of-its-kind application in France at this voltage level.
Campus AI, a joint venture between MGX, Mistral AI, Bpifrance and Nvidia, is developing large-scale AI infrastructure in France. The Fouju Campus will include up to 12 data centre buildings, supercomputing systems, two substations, and supporting facilities.
The site spans around 70 ha, with phased development planned. Initial operations are expected from 2028. RTE will connect the campus to the grid via a new 400 kV link, with capacity increasing from 700 MW to 1.4 GW.
