France: ENERTRAG has unveiled a $1.3 B (€1.1 B) investment plan to accelerate France’s energy transition through new renewable energy and battery storage projects.

The announcement was made at the 9th edition of the Choose France Summit at the Château de Versailles on 1 June 2026. Under the plan, the company aims to commission at least 100 MW of renewable generation and storage capacity each year, with a longer-term goal of reaching 1 GW of installed capacity in France by 2030.

A key focus of the strategy is the development of hybrid energy hubs that combine renewable generation with battery storage systems. ENERTRAG said these integrated projects will improve grid flexibility, optimise energy flows and support the wider integration of renewable electricity into France’s power system.

The company highlighted two flagship developments. In Hauts-de-France, it is building a 120 MW energy hub combining two wind farms with battery storage, expected to become operational in March 2027. In Nouvelle-Aquitaine, a second 110 MW hub will integrate three wind farms with storage to enhance grid efficiency and flexibility.

ENERTRAG said the hub model allows better use of existing grid infrastructure while enabling higher levels of renewable energy penetration. Additional similar projects are also under development across several regions in France.

Dr Gunar Hering, Chief Executive Officer of ENERTRAG SE, said France remains a key strategic market and confirmed the company’s long-term commitment to supporting the country’s energy system transformation.

The company has been active in France for over 25 years, and said the investment reinforces its confidence in the market and its role in supporting long-term decarbonisation goals.
