Vietnam, Hue: Pham Le Phu, CEO of the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), inspected the construction progress of the 220 kV Chan May substation and its associated transmission line in Hue on 4 September. He was accompanied by deputy CEO Nguyen Ngoc Tan, leaders of EVNNPT’s specialised departments, and the Power Transmission Projects Management Board (NPTPMB).
The Grade I, Group B project, located in Chan May–Lang Co, is invested by EVNNPT with NPTPMB managing on its behalf. Once complete, Power Transmission Company No. 2 (PTC2) will operate the facility. The new 220 / 110 / 22 kV substation is designed for 2×125 MVA, with one transformer being installed in this phase.
Planned infrastructure includes eight 220 kV bays (three installed in this phase) and 16 110 kV bays (11 installed). Advanced control, protection, metering, and SCADA systems are being deployed, compliant with EVN and EVNNPT standards. The project also includes a 5.13 km tie-in transmission line with double- and four-circuit segments.
To date, 78 % of site clearance at the substation has been achieved, while 18 of 23 tower foundations for the line are ready. Progress has been slowed by land disputes, compensation limits, and overlapping projects.
Phu commended the efforts of NPTPMB and contractors in maintaining momentum despite these challenges. He stressed the importance of the project in meeting Hue’s rising electricity demand, supporting industrial and tourism growth, and strengthening grid stability nationwide.
He urged closer coordination with local authorities, accelerated land clearance, and mobilisation of resources to ensure timely completion. To encourage teams on site, EVNNPT’s leadership presented gifts recognising their commitment under difficult conditions.
