USA, Pennsylvania, Charleroi: GE Vernova is expanding its Power Transmission manufacturing facility in Charleroi, which produces high-voltage circuit breakers, switchgear and instrument transformers.
The modernisation and expansion form part of a $138 M investment intended to increase manufacturing capacity and shorten delivery times for critical grid components. GE Vernova said the additional capacity will help utilities connect growing energy demand, including data centres, to the grid more quickly and reliably.
The project is expected to create approximately 275 skilled manufacturing jobs by 2028, with further recruitment planned through 2030. New positions will include wiring technicians, mechanics, test technicians, logistics coordinators and supply-chain specialists.
“By investing in American manufacturing and our workforce, we are strengthening the domestic supply chain and helping deliver the essential technologies our customers need to build a more reliable and resilient grid,” said Scott Strazik, CEO of GE Vernova.
Together with other projects, the company expects to invest $166 M in Western Pennsylvania and create more than 700 skilled manufacturing jobs across the state.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said the investment demonstrates the state’s growing role in energy and advanced manufacturing, while creating well-paid jobs and supporting local communities.
The Charleroi project is part of GE Vernova’s wider plan to invest nearly $1.3 B in its US manufacturing and research facilities between 2025 and 2028 to expand domestic capacity, accelerate innovation and meet rising electricity demand.
