USA, Pennsylvania: GE Vernova has unveiled plans to hire 250 additional workers at its grid solutions factory in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, supporting the production of high-voltage switchgear vital to the stability of the nation’s electric infrastructure.

The recruitment drive is part of a broader initiative to invest up to $100 M across multiple sites in Pennsylvania over the next two years. In total, approximately 700 new roles are expected to be created, as the company seeks to reinforce domestic supply chains, support economic growth, and bolster national energy security.

This follows a wider $600 M multi-year investment programme launched in January, which aims to generate 1,500 new jobs across GE Vernova’s US manufacturing network.

“Expanding our manufacturing base is fundamental to powering America’s energy future,” said Scott Strazik, CEO of GE Vernova. “These investments not only revitalise Pennsylvania’s industrial roots but also help close key infrastructure gaps critical to grid modernisation and global competitiveness.”

The company also announced a major equipment contract to deliver seven high-efficiency 7HA.02 natural gas turbines to the Homer City Energy Campus. Once a coal-fired power plant, the site is being transformed into a 13-km2 (3,200-acre) natural gas-powered data centre hub to meet growing demands from artificial intelligence and high-performance computing sectors. The revamped facility is expected to deliver 4.4 GW of power by 2027.

These initiatives form part of GE Vernova’s global $9 B capital and R&D investment strategy through 2028.
