Germany, Saxony: German authorities are investigating two further suspected sabotage attempts at electrical substations after 11 homemade explosive and incendiary devices were discovered near the Graustein and Bärwalde facilities in Saxony.
According to reports, four devices were found near Graustein and seven near Bärwalde. Police subsequently inspected nearby high-voltage lines and surrounding areas for additional devices. Authorities confirmed that an operation had taken place but did not provide further details.
The discoveries follow a series of recent incidents involving German power infrastructure.
On 4 September, police investigated suspicious activity at a substation in Ganderkesee, near Bremen. The same evening, devices with timers were reportedly discovered near high-voltage lines in Dormagen.
Earlier, unknown individuals attacked the Turnow-Preilack substation near the Jänschwalde power plant in Brandenburg, damaging high-voltage lines. Homemade launch devices were also found nearby.
In Bergheim, near Cologne, a cable was thrown across an overhead power line, causing a short circuit. Three generating units at Niederaußem and two at Neurath, representing around 4,200 MW of capacity, were subsequently shut down.
German authorities continue to investigate the incidents and whether they are connected.
