USA, Illinois, Romeoville: G&W Electric is expanding its North American manufacturing footprint with a new 27,063-m2 (291,305-sq-ft) facility in Illinois aimed at increasing production capacity for grid solutions.

The Romeoville site includes approximately 2,787 m2 (30,000 sq ft) of office space alongside dedicated manufacturing areas. The expansion is intended to support growing demand from utilities and industrial customers as grid infrastructure ages and electricity demand increases.

G&W Electric said the additional facility will also free space at its existing operations in Bolingbrook, allowing those locations to accommodate further manufacturing growth.

The investment comes amid increasing pressure on grid equipment supply chains and rising demand associated with hyperscale and AI data centres. The National Electrical Manufacturers Association projects US electricity demand to increase by more than 50 % through 2050.

The Illinois expansion follows other recent investments by G&W Electric. In May, the company acquired Finnish grid management company Safegrid, supporting its activities in high-voltage distribution and transmission network reliability.

G&W Electric has also expanded its Altea sensor manufacturing facility in Ferrara, Italy, increasing production capacity for grid modernisation technologies.
