South Korea, Taean: HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has signed a contract with Taean Wind Power Co. for the engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning of an offshore substation for the Taean offshore wind project.

The project aims to develop an approximately 500 MW offshore wind farm off Taean County in South Chungcheong Province by 2030. It is planned to comprise 36 wind turbines rated at 14 MW each.

Taean Wind Power is a joint venture between Vena Energy, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Korea Western Power. Vena Energy and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners each hold 37.5 %, while Korea Western Power holds 25 %.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries previously completed front-end engineering design for the project and signed a preferred supply agreement in July.

The company received basic design verification from DNV last year for its self-developed 500 MW-class offshore substation model, followed by detailed design verification in August this year.
