Canada, Ontario, Ottawa: Hydro One Networks has submitted a leave-to-construct application to the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) seeking approval for the Orléans Area Reinforcement Project in the Greater Ottawa region.

The project involves building an 11-km, 115-kV transmission line within an existing corridor between Hawthorne Transformer Station and Orléans Transformer Station. It also includes upgrading an existing 115-kV line between the two stations to 230 kV.

Hydro One estimates the investment at around $100 M, with the project expected to be completed and in service by 2029. The company says the upgrade will increase capacity, improve regional transfer capability, and strengthen overall system reliability.

According to Hydro One, electricity demand in Ontario continues to grow, requiring ongoing investment in transmission infrastructure to support population and economic expansion. The company stated that the project will help ensure a reliable electricity supply for Canada’s capital and improve the resilience of the regional grid.

The leave-to-construct application is required under Ontario regulations and includes technical details such as route design, construction timing, and cost estimates for the project.

The Orléans reinforcement project forms part of broader efforts to expand and strengthen Ontario’s electricity infrastructure in response to rising demand.
