South Korea, Seoul: Hyosung Group has entered Korea’s growing data centre market with the launch of a hyperscale AI data centre in Seoul.
The company announced that Hyosung-STT GDC, a joint venture between Hyosung Heavy Industries and Singapore-based ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, has opened STT Seoul 1 in Geumcheon District.
The 30 MW facility is designed to support cloud and artificial intelligence workloads, including high-density computing environments driven by generative AI. It combines Hyosung’s power infrastructure capabilities with STT GDC’s global experience in data centre design, operation and service management.
According to Hyosung, one of the facility’s key advantages is its location in Seoul, where securing large-scale power capacity has become increasingly difficult because of energy regulations and grid constraints. The site also offers low-latency connectivity to major business districts such as Gangnam and Yeouido.
Hyosung Heavy Industries will provide critical electrical systems and technologies for the centre, including ultra-high-voltage transformers, switchgear and power management solutions. These systems are intended to support operational reliability and improve energy efficiency.
The project marks Hyosung’s first major step into the data centre business and supports the group’s ambition to become an infrastructure provider for Korea’s AI economy.
Hyosung Group Chairman Cho Hyun-joon said STT Seoul 1 combines STT GDC’s expertise with Hyosung’s power solutions capabilities and will support the growth of Korea’s AI industry.
The facility has also received Tier III Certification of Design Documents from Uptime Institute, confirming a design approach that supports high availability through concurrent maintainability.
