USA, Texas, San Antonio: Industrial Electric Mfg. (IEM) has announced plans to establish a new $200 M advanced manufacturing facility in San Antonio, expanding its North American production capacity for switchgear and related power distribution equipment.
The factory will be located at Brooks City Base in southeast San Antonio and is expected to create up to 3,000 jobs. A $3.36 M Texas Enterprise Fund grant has been awarded in connection with 448 of the planned positions.
IEM manufactures switchgear, switchboards, remote power panels and custom electrical distribution systems for industries including healthcare, energy and advanced manufacturing.
The company said the new facility will strengthen its domestic supply chain and improve its ability to serve customers across North America.
“IEM is excited to put down roots in San Antonio,” said Clayton Such, CEO of IEM. He said the city’s workforce, infrastructure and business environment made it a natural location for the company’s next phase of growth.
Texas officials described the project as a major advanced-manufacturing investment for the region. According to greater: SATX, it represents the largest job-producing investment in the San Antonio region in more than two decades.
The expansion comes as demand for electrical distribution equipment continues to rise across sectors including data centres, manufacturing and other power-intensive industries.
