UAE: India’s Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has announced that its Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) business has secured several major grid infrastructure contracts across the Middle East, including a key 400 kV substation project in the United Arab Emirates for direct interconnection with Oman.
The company will undertake engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) for the UAE substation, which forms part of the Oman–GCC Grid interconnection initiative. Currently, Oman’s network connects to the GCC Grid through the UAE at 220 kV, with a transfer capacity of 400 MW.
According to the GCC Interconnection Authority (GCCIA), the full interconnection project involves building two 400 kV substations – the Ibri substation in Oman and the Baynunah substation in the UAE – along with expansion of the existing Al-Sila substation.
In addition, L&T’s PT&D unit has won contracts for 132 kV substations elsewhere in the Middle East and for the turnkey construction of 380 kV overhead transmission lines in Saudi Arabia, supporting the integration of new renewable energy plants.
These projects reinforce L&T’s growing presence in the Gulf’s transmission and distribution sector, supporting regional power reliability and cross-border connectivity.
