India, Tamil Nadu, Madurai: Commercial Taxes and Registration Minister P Moorthy launched a major power infrastructure project in Madurai district, laying the foundation stone for a 110 / 33-11 kV substation at Siruthur in Madurai North taluk.
The project, undertaken by the Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation (TANTRANSCO), aims to enhance electricity distribution and improve grid reliability in the Madurai West region. Officials noted that the new facility will help meet rising power demand, reduce network congestion, and provide a more stable supply for households, businesses, and farmers.
Speaking at the event, held in the presence of district collector K J Praveen Kumar, the minister said the substation reflects the state government’s continued efforts to upgrade energy infrastructure and ensure reliable power delivery across Tamil Nadu.
Alongside the substation, Moorthy also laid foundation stones for bridge projects in the district. However, he underlined that strengthening the electricity network remains a priority, as improved power supply directly supports industrial growth, agricultural productivity, and everyday life for residents.
The new substation adds to a wider programme of power infrastructure upgrades being implemented across the region to support future economic development.
