Denmark, Zealand: NCC has been selected by Energinet to construct a 400 kV air-insulated switchgear substation at Ringsbjerg and expand the existing substation at Bjäverskov.
The contract is valued at approximately $20 M (SEK 190 M) and will be registered within NCC Infrastructure in the third quarter of 2026.
NCC will act as the main contractor, carrying out earthworks, concreting, foundations, installation and construction activities.
The project forms part of Denmark’s wider transmission-grid expansion and is intended to support the movement of larger volumes of renewable electricity as demand grows through electrification.
“Our expertise in complex civil engineering and infrastructure projects makes this project a perfect fit,” said Bjarki Finnbogason, Head of Section at NCC Infrastructure in Denmark. He added that the work supports NCC’s focus on critical energy infrastructure.
The new Ringsbjerg substation will become a key hub in Zealand’s transmission network and can be expanded later as electricity needs increase.
“Denmark is in the midst of a historic transition,” said Nina Høegh Jensen, Executive Vice President for Electricity Transmission at Energinet. She said the country is investing heavily in the grid to support the green transition, maintain security of supply and accommodate greater use of electricity in transport and heating.
The wider project in central Zealand also includes new 400 kV cables.
Construction is scheduled to begin after the summer, with the substation expected to be commissioned in 2029.
