Jordan, Amman: Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh on 13 September inaugurated a new power substation in downtown Amman and an advanced customer service centre in Ruseifa, underscoring Jordan’s efforts to modernise its electricity network.
Operated by the Jordan Electric Power Company (JEPCO), the projects aim to improve grid efficiency, strengthen readiness to meet growing demand, and enhance communication with consumers, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Speaking at the ceremony, attended by Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) Chief Ziad Saaydeh and JEPCO Director General Hassan Abdullah, Kharabsheh said the projects reflect a collaborative approach to ensuring stability and addressing public needs. “These initiatives are part of our broader strategy to enhance energy security and deliver reliable, high-quality services to citizens,” he noted.
Saaydeh highlighted EMRC’s role in monitoring technical and operational plans, while Abdullah stressed JEPCO’s commitment to expanding substations, modernising the grid, and improving service performance.
During the visit, Kharabsheh toured the new “Al Maqar” substation, which will help strengthen electricity supply in Amman and surrounding areas.
JEPCO has invested about $113 M (JD80 M) in 19 substation projects across Amman, Zarqa, Madaba, and Balqa, scheduled for completion by the end of 2026. The upgrades are expected to reduce technical losses, add capacity, and prepare the grid for rising demand from air conditioning, heating, and electric vehicles.
