Ghana, Accra: Nigeria has signed a strategic Country Partnership Framework (CPF) with the International Solar Alliance (ISA) to accelerate solar adoption and drive sustainable growth. The agreement was formalised at ISA’s Seventh Regional Committee Meeting for Africa, held in Accra from 2–4 September 2025.
Representing Nigeria, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu signed alongside ISA Director General Ashish Khanna. The framework sets out a three-year action plan focusing on advocacy, capacity building, and programme support.
At its centre is the creation of the $500 M DRE Nigeria Fund, which will mobilise investment for distributed renewable energy projects with backing from Nigeria’s Ministry of Power.
Planned initiatives include scaling solar use in agriculture, expanding rooftop installations, deploying mini-grids, and setting up a Solar Technology and Application Resource (STAR) Centre.
Adelabu described the partnership as transformational: “Decentralised renewable energy is not just about light; it is about powering schools, clinics, enterprises, and farming, and opening opportunities for digital inclusion in rural communities.”
The CPF aligns with Nigeria’s broader push for energy independence and sustainable development. It also highlights regional momentum, as Ghana and The Gambia entered similar agreements during the event.
By embedding solar energy into its national strategy, Nigeria is taking a decisive step toward a more inclusive and climate-resilient future.
