France, Vendée: Ocean Winds has completed installation of the final turbine at the Îles d’Yeu and Noirmoutier (EMYN) offshore wind farm, marking the start of full operation.

The project, developed by Ocean Winds, a joint venture between EDPR and ENGIE, was delivered in under three years of offshore construction despite challenging weather and industrial conditions.

Located off the Vendée coast, the wind farm consists of 61 turbines. Since June 2025, electricity generation has been gradually ramped up as turbines were installed. The site now produces renewable energy equivalent to the annual consumption of nearly 800,000 people, supporting France’s energy transition.

During construction, the project contributed to around 2,400 direct and indirect jobs and supported the development of the local supply chain. This included manufacturing activities such as blade production and nacelle assembly, as well as the construction of the offshore substation.

As the wind farm moves into operation and maintenance, around 80 long-term direct jobs will be created, with most roles based on the island of Yeu.

Craig Windram, CEO of Ocean Winds, said: “This milestone reflects the maturity of our industrial model, the strength of our partnerships, and our contribution to reinforcing energy security through the deployment of reliable, renewable generation assets. It marks an important step in our continued development in France.”

The project forms part of broader offshore wind expansion in France, as the country continues to develop new capacity and strengthen its renewable energy portfolio.
