UK, Scotland: Ofgem has approved around $200 M (£150 M) in Early Construction Funding for two major electricity transmission projects in central and southern Scotland.
The funding will support the Tealing to Kincardine Upgrade Project (TKUP) and the Denny to Wishaw Network Upgrade (DWNO), both included in the company’s RIIO-T3 Business Plan running from April 2026 to March 2031.
The TKUP project includes increasing the voltage of existing overhead lines in Fife from 275 kV to 400 kV, extending substations at Westfield and Mossmorran, and building a new substation at Conland near Glenrothes.
Meanwhile, the DWNO project will reinforce the network between Denny and Wishaw by upgrading existing overhead lines and constructing a new transmission line between Bonnybridge and an area near Glenmavis.
Around $130 M (£99 M) has been allocated to TKUP, while DWNO will receive $72 M (£53.1 M). Both projects are part of the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment framework, which is designed to speed up delivery of critical energy infrastructure projects across Great Britain.
The investment will allow work to move forward on major upgrades aimed at strengthening the transmission network and supporting the UK Government’s Clean Power 2030 Action Plan.
Ofgem said early funding would help transmission operators secure essential equipment, reduce supply chain delays and speed up the delivery of cleaner, homegrown energy.
The wider RIIO-T3 Business Plan aims to cut consumer bills, boost economic growth and support thousands of jobs across the UK supply chain while helping deliver a more reliable and lower-carbon electricity system.
