USA, Texas: Oncor Electric Delivery has acquired land on Farrar Road in Ellis County, Texas to develop a new 765-kV/345-kV substation and switch station, advancing its extra-high-voltage transmission project. The purchase positions Oncor to support growing electricity demand driven by hyperscale data centers and industrial expansion.

Located near the existing Stainback 345-kV substation, the new facility will serve as a critical node in Texas’ emerging EHV transmission backbone. The substation will interconnect long-distance 765-kV transmission lines, step down power to 345-kV for regional distribution, and aggregate loads for major customers, including data centres in the Ellis County corridor such as Databank, Compass, Google, Amazon, Skybox, Stack and QTS.

The project is expected to energise in the coming years, pending regulatory approval. The site provides a strategic link between statewide power flows and local energy demand, helping ensure reliability as the region’s power needs grow.
