Canada, Ontario: The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) has awarded contracts for 1.3 GW of new renewable energy capacity across 14 projects in the Canadian province of Ontario.
The awarded projects are part of the Long-Term 2 Request for Proposals (LT2 RFP) programme and include 12 solar projects with a combined capacity of 915.1 MW, along with two wind projects totalling 400 MW.
Each project has been awarded 20-year contracts under the programme. The IESO is still in the process of finalising contract negotiations with the selected developers and is expected to publish full details, including pricing, in May.
According to the IESO, a further three procurement rounds are planned as part of the LT2 RFP programme, indicating continued investment in expanding Ontario’s renewable energy capacity.
The announcement reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen the province’s electricity system through long-term clean energy procurement and development.
