Taiwan: Ørsted has achieved a major milestone at the Greater Changhua offshore wind project in Taiwan by completing the installation of all turbines at the 920 MW Greater Changhua 2b and 4 sites.
Located 35–60 km off Changhua County, the project features 66 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 turbines, each rated at 14 MW, with 115-m-long blades. Offshore construction began in February 2025, and turbine installation started in April using Cadeler’s Wind Maker vessel. First power was delivered to Taiwan’s grid in July 2025, marking the project as the region’s first to supply renewable electricity under Ørsted’s 2020 corporate power purchase agreement.
The turbine installation campaign was completed in just 275 days, with safety a top priority. The team recorded approximately 131,576 offshore working hours with zero lost-time injuries.
Focus now shifts to commissioning, electrical system testing, and completing cable works, with full commercial operation expected in Q3 2026. Technical highlights include the use of piling-free suction bucket jacket foundations—the first in the region—and the global deployment of 14 MW turbines.
Ørsted Region APAC CEO Per Mejnert Kristensen said: “With all wind turbines now installed, we have reached a key milestone for Taiwan’s offshore wind expansion and Ørsted’s 8.1 GW construction pipeline.”
Jayaram Naidu, managing director of Ørsted Greater Changhua, added: “Completing 920 MW of turbines within a single installation season is a major achievement, especially given the short weather window and challenging Taiwan Strait conditions. It reflects rigorous planning, risk management, and a strong safety culture across all marine operations.”
