Switzerland, Hirschthal: The Pfiffner Group has announced the acquisition of the “Electrical Switches & Connectors” business from R&S Group Holding AG. Founded in 1927, the Swiss family-owned company employs around 1,200 people worldwide and continues to strengthen its position in the low- and medium-voltage sector.
Through this acquisition, Pfiffner expands its expertise in the production of switching devices and connection solutions. The acquired business unit, previously part of R&S Group in Sissach, Canton Basel-Landschaft, employs 26 people and generates annual revenues of approximately $10-12.5 M (CHF 8 to 10 M).
While the business has shown steady growth in recent years, R&S Group considers the unit to have limited strategic alignment with its core transformer activities. The divestment allows R&S to sharpen its focus on its main business areas going forward.
With subsidiaries in Switzerland, Germany, Brazil and Turkey, the Pfiffner Group is well positioned to integrate the new product range. According to Marcel Rüfenacht, CEO of the Pfiffner Group, the portfolio of electrical switches and connectors is a strong fit with the offerings of Pfiffner Switchgear Ltd, particularly in the low- and medium-voltage segments. He highlights the catenary disconnector segment as offering especially promising growth potential.
All employees of the acquired unit will be retained, and operations will continue at the existing site, ensuring continuity for customers and partners.
Pfiffner Switchgear Ltd traces its roots back to 1928 and has operated under the Pfiffner brand in Grenchen since 2025. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2025, subject to customary conditions. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
