USA: The PJM Board of Managers has approved changes to existing projects in the Regional Transmission Expansion Plan to help provide an efficient, economical and reliable supply of power for the 67 million people PJM serves across 13 states and the District of Columbia.
The approved modifications include scope changes to projects from the 2022 and 2024 RTEP Windows, updates to Transource Project 9A, and scope refinements in projects such as the New Jersey offshore wind connection and the Elmont–Chickahominy 500 kV line.
Among the most notable changes:
- Cost adjustments were made following reevaluation of design and site conditions.
- Several projects will shift from lattice to H-frame structures due to terrain challenges.
- Modifications reflect growing energy needs, particularly from data centres, with one area seeing 15 new delivery point requests.
- Some scope reductions and cancellations were also approved to eliminate redundancy and reduce unnecessary costs.
In total, these changes result in a net cost increase of $197 M, offset by $4.5 M in savings from a cancelled baseline project.
PJM’s RTEP process evaluates system violations, public policy requirements, and market performance, integrating solutions that enhance regional transmission operations.
