Germany: RWE and Amazon have signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for 110 MW from the Nordseecluster B offshore wind farm in the German North Sea, roughly 50 km north of Juist island. This agreement builds on a Strategic Framework signed in June 2025, under which Amazon supports RWE’s digital transformation with cloud, AI, and data services while sourcing renewable energy.

Nordseecluster is a two-phase project: Nordseecluster A (660 MW) is under construction and expected online in 2027, while Nordseecluster B will add 900 MW, with commercial operation scheduled for 2029. The wind farm is jointly owned by RWE (51 %) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%). The 110 MW PPA will deliver enough electricity to meet the needs of over 139,000 German households each year.

Ulf Kerstin, RWE Supply & Trading Chief Commercial Officer, said the agreement helps accelerate Germany’s decarbonisation and ensures long-term supply security. Large-scale offshore projects like Nordseecluster increase the availability of reliable, carbon-free electricity and support a resilient energy system.

For Amazon, the PPA advances its 2040 net-zero carbon goal. The company currently operates six on-site solar projects in Germany, and this marks its fourth large-scale offshore wind agreement in the country. Collectively, Amazon’s ten renewable projects in Germany will generate enough electricity for over 1 million households.

Rocco Bräuniger, Amazon Country Manager for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, highlighted that the agreement contributes to a modern, carbon-free energy future and strengthens Germany’s renewable capacity for decades.

Globally, Amazon has contracted more than 1 GW of renewable energy from multiple RWE projects. This PPA is the first collaboration between the two companies outside the United States.
