Germany: RWE and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, Masdar, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to assess potential joint participation in German offshore wind auctions in 2027.

The agreement has an indicative investment value of more than $3.6 B (€3 B) and builds on the companies’ existing cooperation in offshore wind.

RWE and Masdar currently jointly operate and develop offshore wind projects in the United Kingdom with a combined capacity of 3.6 GW. Their partnership dates back to the London Array offshore wind farm, which has been operational since 2013 and has a capacity exceeding 600 MW.

The companies are also partners in the Dogger Bank South offshore wind development. The East and West projects have a combined planned capacity of 3 GW and recently secured Contracts for Difference in the UK Government’s Allocation Round 7.

RWE said offshore wind is expected to play a central role in Germany’s future electricity system and that partnerships will be important in developing new projects at scale.

The new MoU was signed during the state visit of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Germany.

Alongside the offshore wind agreement, RWE Supply & Trading and ADNOC signed a separate Letter of Intent covering potential long-term LNG supply arrangements for Germany, Europe and Asian markets from the early 2030s.
