UK: Schneider Electric has launched its latest medium-voltage switchgear, MCSeT, in the UK, offering a safe, energy-efficient, and digitally connected solution for modern power distribution.

As electricity demand rises and electrification expands across industry and transport, the UK’s ageing distribution networks face growing pressure. MCSeT addresses these challenges by combining robust engineering with advanced digital capabilities, enabling operators to manage networks more reliably, flexibly, and intelligently.

At the heart of MCSeT is the new EvoPacT HVX circuit breaker, designed for long service life with up to 50,000 mechanical and electrical operations at 12–17.5 kV and 30,000 at 24 kV. Integrated IoT sensors continuously monitor system health, detecting up to 63% of potential downtime scenarios, while predictive maintenance software and expert recommendations help reduce unplanned outages by up to 40 %.

MCSeT also enhances safety by allowing key operations, such as breaker switching and earthing, to be performed digitally via HMI or mobile app, reducing live work and operator exposure to arc-flash hazards.

Sustainability is built into the design: MCSeT uses 20 % less raw materials, eliminates SF6 gas, and extends circuit breaker lifespan, lowering maintenance and replacement needs.

David Pownall, VP of Power Systems, Schneider Electric UK&I, said: “The launch of MCSeT in the UK reflects our commitment to supporting the modernisation of the UK’s distribution infrastructure through smart, safe, and digitally connected technologies.”

MCSeT will roll out in 12, 17.5, and 24 kV variants, with fully integrated sensors and connectivity, ready for industrial, commercial, and utility applications.
