India: Sharika Enterprises Limited has secured a major contract from JSW Renew Energy Three Limited to supply advanced 33 kV Outdoor Smart SF6 load break switches (LBS) for a wind farm project, reinforcing India’s transition to underground renewable power distribution systems.
The contract marks a continuation of Sharika’s earlier role in supplying underground cables for JSW’s wind operations, reflecting a strong alliance between the two companies. Together, they aim to build a forward-looking grid infrastructure to support India’s clean energy ambitions.
“This transition to underground cabling and smart switchgear is a welcome step for the industry,” said Somdutt Sharma, General Manager at Sharika. “It enhances safety, reduces outages, and prepares the grid for the future.”
The smart SF6 switchgear will provide ring operation and self-healing grid capabilities, strengthening reliability and efficiency for wind and solar plants. Unlike traditional overhead cabling, underground systems minimise exposure to environmental risks, ensuring higher renewable generation availability.
A key highlight of the project is the use of SF6 gas-insulated LBS units as cost-effective alternatives to traditional ring main units (RMUs). Offering advanced functionality and operational flexibility, these switches combine technical superiority with commercial efficiency.
The switchgear is designed and manufactured by Contronics Switchgear, a company with over 45 years of expertise in electric control panels and industrial power solutions. By aligning Sharika’s execution capabilities with Contronics’ manufacturing excellence, the partnership promises long-term synergy and future-ready solutions.
