India, Goa: Siemens Energy India has commissioned its first 145 kV SF6-free circuit breaker for the Goa Electricity Department, bringing the company’s Blue high-voltage technology into operation in India.

The circuit breaker uses clean air insulation and vacuum switching technology, eliminating sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) and other fluorinated greenhouse gases from the equipment.

Siemens Energy said the commissioning represents the first deployment of its SF6-free high-voltage circuit breaker technology at the 145 kV level in India.

Guilherme Mendonca, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Energy India, said the project reflects growing attention to reducing the environmental footprint of transmission infrastructure as electricity demand increases.

The company’s Blue portfolio is designed to replace fluorinated insulating gases in high-voltage equipment while maintaining the performance and reliability required for transmission applications.
