USA, Pennsylvania: Nearly 100,000 power customers in central Pennsylvania remained without electricity on 5 July after storms brought down trees and power lines across the region.
PPL Electric Utilities reported more than 67,000 customers still without power in its Midstate service area, down from around 105,000 earlier in the event.
Lancaster County remained one of the hardest-hit areas, with 25,194 PPL customers still affected, down from nearly 45,000. The largest outage clusters were reported in Manheim Township and Lancaster City.
Local police said parts of Lancaster City were still dealing with power outages, non-working traffic lights, fallen trees and road debris. In the Manheim area, several roads remained blocked by downed trees and power lines, with some closures expected to continue overnight.
Cumberland County had around 22,000 PPL customers without power, mainly along the West Shore. Significant outages were reported in Lower Allen Township, New Cumberland Borough and Hampden Township.
Dauphin County reported 14,649 outages, including affected customers in Lower Paxton Township, Lower Swatara Township and Harrisburg. York County had 5,512 PPL outages, mainly in Fairview Township and Wrightsville Borough.
PPL said crews worked through the night and were being supported by teams from Canada and affiliated power companies. The utility also said it was waiving the usual 24-hour outage requirement for its Ice and Water Programme due to the extreme heat.
FirstEnergy and its affiliates reported 8,905 remaining outages, mainly in Cumberland, York and Lebanon counties, down from around 21,000.
