Malaysia, Shah Alam: TAMCO Switchgear and Hoymiles have formed a strategic partnership to localise the assembly of utility-scale battery energy storage systems in Shah Alam, Malaysia.
The collaboration supports Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap, which targets 40 % renewable energy in installed electricity capacity by 2035 and 70 % by 2050. As renewable generation, digital infrastructure and advanced manufacturing expand, the country’s grid will require more resilient power infrastructure and large-scale energy storage solutions.
Under the first phase of the partnership, TAMCO will assemble Hoymiles’ AI-enhanced 5 MWh and 6 MWh liquid-cooled battery energy storage solutions at its Shah Alam facility. Instead of relying only on imported completed systems, activities such as system integration, testing, commissioning, servicing and long-term maintenance will be carried out locally.
The partnership was announced at a signing witnessed by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority. MIDA said the collaboration demonstrates how international technology expertise can support Malaysian engineering capabilities, strengthen local supply chains and create higher-value opportunities for local businesses and talent.
TAMCO brings more than six decades of manufacturing experience, with over 300,000 switchgear units deployed globally and support for more than 2,300 substations. Hoymiles contributes its experience in smart energy technologies and utility-scale storage, serving customers across more than 190 countries and regions.
The long-term plan includes technical knowledge exchange, specialist talent development and deeper localisation. The companies aim to position Malaysia as a regional hub for advanced energy infrastructure and future-ready grid solutions.
