Italy, Grosseto: Terna has received authorisation for a new project involving the municipalities of Gavorano and Roccastrada in Grosseto. The company will invest around $29.5 M in the construction of an underground cable power line of more than 11 km. The line will connect the existing 132 kV Giuncarico–Ghirlanda overhead line with the Primary Cabin in Ribolla, owned by the local distributor.
As part of the works, Terna will dismantle a 4 km section of the current Giuncarico–Ghirlanda overhead line and remove 13 pylons. This will free up more than 12 ha of land previously occupied by electrical infrastructure. The new underground connection is expected to improve grid meshing and ensure greater reliability of the local electricity supply.
The project has been designed with consideration for local communities and the environment. Citizens, particularly landowners affected by the cable route, will be able to consult the full project documentation at the offices of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, as well as the municipalities of Gavorano and Roccastrada.
According to Terna, the investment forms part of its wider plan to modernise and strengthen Italy’s electricity network, supporting more sustainable and resilient infrastructure.
